California Department of Resources, Recycling and Recovery Director Margo Reid Brown and city of Plymouth Mayor Patricia Fordyce celebrated the grand opening of the Amador County used motor oil and filter recycling center in Plymouth with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The new center, located at Foothill Garage and Wrecking, 9408 Pacific St., Plymouth, will accept used motor oil, filters, antifreeze and car batteries at no charge from county residents. The program, headed by the Amador County Waste Management Department, is funded by a grant from CalRecycle's Used Oil Block Grant Program.
During the last seven years, the county's oil recycling program has collected more than 100,000 gallons of used motor oil from Amador County residents. The oil is sent to a re-refining facility where all the dirt and impurities are removed and it is packaged for reuse. The oil recycling program makes it easy for individuals to safely and lawfully recycle their used oil and filters and prevent potential harm to the environment and waterways.
The new Plymouth center is the latest of several oil and filter recycling centers spread throughout Amador County including locations in: Pine Grove, Jackson, Martell, Sutter Creek, Ione and the Buena Vista Transfer Station.
